Various display attributes (shadow characters) in the edit field are
usually interpreted as follows (the actual interpretation depends on
the shadow definitions):

   display attribute     interpretation (on PostScript)
   1 bold                bold
   2 subscript           subscript
   3 superscript         superscript
   4 underscore          underline
   5 blink               dotting
   6 overscore           italics
   7 reverse             reverse
